Send it the Roeddes - written and produced by Katherine Alpen

March 27, 2020

This past October, I wrote and executive produced my first ever short film! Corona has thrown a wrench into the post-production process of course, but we're still working away to get this film completed this year.

The log line! 1897 Vancouver: a period drama follows a day in the life of Emma Roedde a year after the death of her sister Anna. Directed by Dide Su Bilgin, Cinematography by Kate Smith, Co-producer: Vivian Davidson, written and produced by Katherine Alpen.

We are WRAPPED on the indie feature EXUVIA!

September 07, 2019

We have wrapped shooting on Exuvia! It has been an adventure and my biggest artistic undertaking to date. I can hardly believe it's done! Now post-production begins... :)

"During one turbulent summer a dangerously troubled nanny teaches a brilliant ten-year-old boy that freedom to move forward is made possible by shedding the ugly skin of our past."

It was a wild ride  shooting an indie feature with a 3-4 person crew and a cast of 10. Thank you to writer/director Anthony Harrison for trusting me with this character and thank you to Ernst for doing EVERYTHING that a crew of 30 would handle. You are both so amazing! And to my co-stars Amanda, Remi, June, Morgan, Kurt and Bunbury, y'all are just the bees knees <3

Little Miss Glitz is BACK!!!

January 31, 2018

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

Too Fly Productions is remounting their hit musical at Performance Works this coming March EXCEPT this time with brand new music by Chris King. Directed and choreographed by Dawn Ewen: here's the official write up!

Little Miss Glitz is an original musical parody of child beauty pageants, now new and improved with original music written by Christopher King. Dust off those tiaras, get your spray tans on and practice those cupcake hands because this show is going to be off the hook!

The show sets the questionable beauty standards and parenting practices of child beauty pageants to music in a high-energy musical with a twist: there is no scripted winner. Each night, a panel of judges pulled from the audience will determine who wins, leaving the cast to improvise the end of the show.

Adding to this element of surprise is a heartwarming story of Isabella Connor, a frumpy and impressionable 7-year-old, as she navigates through the world of child beauty pageants. While at first pageants seem like a fun way to dress up, have fun and get a foot in the door of stardom, Isabella soon discovers that the cutthroat world of pageants takes no prisoners. You have to fight to survive.

Shocking, sassy, and uncompromisingly funny, Little Miss Glitz questions modern society’s obsession with a person’s looks to uncover the beauty within. Coupled with Dawn Ewen’s fearless direction and show-stopping choreography, Little Miss Glitz promises to take you on a musical adventure like you’ve never seen before.

GO GLITZ OR GO HOME!

Playing March 16-31, 2018 at Performance Works.

100 Days of Violin Challenge!

March 05, 2017

I have started a personal and professional project: to learn the violin.

Why? Well, I need another skill: the days of performers not being musicians have come and gone! So what did I choose? The violin!

I played for 3 years when I was a kid and decided it's easier to transport than a piano.

I'm filming myself every couple days and plan to make a video of my progress at the end. Hopefully there will be a difference :)

You can follow along on Instagram: the social media aspect keeps me accountable: I post a photo of practicing every day! Wish me luck!

Shakespeare After Dark: Instant Theatre

October 29, 2016

They say it best! So happy to be a new member of this improv group! Last Saturday of every month!

"Shakespeare After Dark is the highbrow fusion of Shakespeare served with a side of improvisational mischief. In the first half, you’ll witness a scene from the Bard utterly monkey-wrenched by an utterly punch-drunk cast member leaving the rest of the cast to improvise around them.

Then, stick around for the second half where the cast lays the booze aside to serve a straight up Shakespearean tragedy – based on your suggestions. With a genuinely drunken professional actor volunteering every night, no two shows are ever the same. Side-splitting, raucous, and completely interactive, Shakespeare After Dark will blow you away."
